| Title: | 1943 Remington-Rand 1911a1 Pistol w/Holster & Two Mags | |
| Date/Era/Period: | 1943 | |
| Description: | An original WWII Remington-Rand 1911a1 with leather U.S. holster and canvas mag holder. All original. | |
| Condition: | 1. Holster wear only. No rust, no pits on gun. 2. The original barrel is lightly pitted (frosted) from use of perchlorate primers in 1970's, and no soap & water cleaning. Rifling is fine. 3. Pistol is jam-free, everything works, was test-fired July, '09. S/N is: 1290505, which is 1943 manufacture, I believe. 4. The (2) original mags function perfectly. 4. The original holster, marked "Yaeger" in ballpoint (family name) is in good unscuffed and unwrinkled shape. The top-snap which holds the pistol works perfectly. The bottom strap which held a leather chest belt? has a missing male stud. 5. The pistol parts match: the correct "FJA" on left frame. 6. The barrel is stamped "HS" on right lug, "P" on left side. 7. This pistol has had approx. 500 rds. through it since WWII. It still makes good groups and functions perfectly. 8. All screwheads on the grips and pistol are NOT burred. They are sharp & clean. The pistol has never been disassembled beyond "slide off, basic cleaning". 9. The diamond checkering on the plastic grips is sharp & clean, and not worn. 10. The magazines are rust-free, marked "C-L" and "L" on the bottom mag lip. I believe this means "Colt-Little" and "Little" subcontractors. 11. The green canvas mag holder is original and in perfect shape. The snap works fine. It's marked "Biscayne Tent & Awning Co. Inc., 1943" on the back, and "U.S." on the front. | |
| Origin: | Brought back from Germany in 1945 by my uncle, a B-24 navigator. Given to my Marine father in 1945, after WWII. I know the history of the weapon; have fired it several times since age 6, myself. (1951) It has never left the family, and I inherited it in 1995, after my father passed away. I have put perhaps 200 rds. through it since then, myself. | |
| Provenance: | Never sold. Family owned since 1945. | |

| Appraiser Comments: | Remington Rand manufactured 1911 A1 Military pistol in .45 ACP. The serial number is 1290505, and the pistol is a matching gun and condition is very good with some minor holster wear. I like your detailed description of the guns condition and history. The gun also has an original holster and extra magazine and both are in very good condition it sounds like. The gun appears to be all original and has original parkerizing which still looks great. Remington made around 1,086,624 of these pistols from 1943 - 1945. This was a 1943 made gun and its very nice having all the history with it. These are worth some money and at this time I would estimate the gun to be worth around $ 1,800.00 or so with the holster and extra magazine. This would be a retail price as wholesale or to a friend it might be around $1,500.00 or so. |
